OVARIAN CANCER

Mackay Nude Lunch to honour founder Trudy Crowley with sell out event

BY: Tracey Mesken17/09/2018

Now in it’s third year running, the event is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for ovarian cancer. When Mackay Local Trudy Crowley received the news in 2016 that she had late stage ovarian cancer, she chose to build something positive from the circumstances and that same year the Nude Lunch was born; an evening of drinks, dining and entertainment that would both create awareness and raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Australia.Trudy sadly passed away in late August of this year, and WorkPac would like to offer our condolences to her family, friends, the event organisers, and all those in the Mackay community and beyond who connected with her story. Her legacy will carry on through the Nude Lunch, which raised over $100k in its first two years running; a success that looks set to continue with this year’s event, which has sold over 700 tickets. The money raised from the nude lunch has gone towards Ovarian Cancer Australia, who both fund research and offer support services for those diagnosed and their families. With approximately 75% of women being diagnosed at an advanced stage, these support services are vital. The money raised has also gone back into the local community, with two palliative care beds having been purchased for the Mackay Hospital. The event is being presented by major sponsor Dalrymple Coal Bay, in addition to sponsorships from local businesses and companies operating within the community, including WorkPac Mackay. The Nude Lunch is being held on the 21st of September 2018 from 11am to 5pm at Old Mulherin Park at Mackay Marina. For more information on the event check their websiteTo learn more about Ovarian Cancer or make a donation, visit the Ovarian Cancer Australia page And to learn more about Trudy Crowley and her legacy, you can view Channel 7 Mackay’s tribute video here
