About the client:
The Department of Primary Industries supports and regulates agriculture, fisheries, and forestry while protecting Queensland from pests, diseases, and invasive species. It helps industries stay productive through research and advice, enforces biosecurity laws, and ensures natural resources are managed sustainably.
About the Position:
Working within Biosecurity Queensland, the successful candidate will be part of the Invasive Plant & Animal Team that provides contract labour hire staff to the National Electric Ant Eradication Program.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- undertake tasks contributing to the protection of the Queensland biosecurity system by assisting stakeholders to manage biosecurity risks associated with diseases, pests and invasive species.
- conducting field-based monitoring, surveillance, auditing and treatment activities
- gathering evidence to assist investigations of potential legislative breaches and chemical residue impacts (e.g. field observations, sample collection, witness statements/interviews)
- assist external stakeholders to achieve legislative compliance by responding to enquires and providing fundamental technical information.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Diploma in a related field such as Biosecurity, Environmental Science or Biology
- Practical experience and skill, or the ability to quickly acquire skill, in using a smart mobile device, and a GPS device
- A current unrestricted C Class Drivers Licence
