About the role
WorkPac is seeking a Communications Officer to join our client. This role involves authorizing road access, maintaining communication tools, and monitoring compliance with safety protocols. Strong crisis management, communication skills, and familiarity with GIS and emergency systems are essential.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate vehicle movements and maintain communication via radio, phone, and online systems.
- Monitor road user data, weather conditions, and aircraft activity, providing regular updates.
- Assist in emergency response, broadcasting Mayday and liaising with ERT.
- Maintain logs of incidents and communications, escalating issues promptly.
- Manage InReach, satellite phones, and permits, ensuring availability.
- Adhere to emergency procedures and participate in ongoing training.
- Distribute the daily Site BRT contact list.
- Operate communication devices and use GIS tools for decision-making.
- Communicate effectively with diverse groups.
Skills and experience required
- Strong communication skills via radio, phone, and online systems.
- Experience coordinating vehicle movements and ensuring compliance with road rules.
- Proficiency with weather tools (e.g., Weatherzone) and flight tracking software (e.g., Spidertracks).
- Knowledge of emergency communication systems and procedures, including coordination with ERT.
- Ability to manage tools like InReach and satellite phones, maintaining inventory.
- Experience logging and escalating incidents.
- Effective crisis communication skills.
- Basic GIS skills for tracking and decision-making.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse groups.
- Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to ongoing learning.
