About the Position:

We are seeking a Laboratory/Field Technician for a FIFO/DIDO casual position. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for effectively conducting quality testing and control of Asphalt Production and Asphalt Laying to ensure all product & quality standards are met and satisfy both internal and external customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate Quality Control testing Asphalt, Quarry aggregate, sand and other raw materials
  • Performance test asphalt as part of improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend process changes and / or mix design changes.
  • Assist with the designing of asphalt mixes.
  • Compile, check and input daily test results into the computer database and generate test reports.
  • Assess, register and input external raw material conformance results into database as required.
  • Monitor and audit raw material compliance by suppliers to internal and external specifications.
  • Undertake compaction testing to satisfy all relevant specification requirements, reporting, providing regular feedback on rolling patterns to crews.
  • Comply with NATA requirements as part of Laboratory accreditation and becoming NATA signatory for appropriate tests.
  • Asphalt plant operation
  • Recycling plant operation
  • Dispatch operations
  • Front-end loader operation
  • Assist in other daily production operations and house keeping duties.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • VCE or equivalent education level required.
  • Tertiary Education or equivalent training highly regarded.
  • Experience in quality control testing.
  • Front End Loader and / or Forklift Ticket will be highly regarded.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the asphalt industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of bituminous surfacing would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance would be an advantage.
