About the Client

Our client operates the worlds largest integrated portfolio of iron ore assets. These assets include a world-class, integrated network of 15 iron ore mines, four port facilities, a 1,700 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure.

About the Position

The Principal Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership and specialist engineering support across exploration programs. You will be responsible for the design, review, and approval of mechanical systems used in field operations, including drilling and materials handling equipment. Working closely with geoscience, projects, and operations teams, you will ensure engineering outcomes are practical, compliant, and suited to remote environments while driving continuous improvement and mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across mechanical engineering activities
• Design, review, and approve mechanical systems and equipment
• Support exploration projects with fit-for-purpose engineering solutions
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver project outcomes
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards
• Manage and coordinate contractors and engineering deliverables
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across operations
• Mentor and support development of engineering team members

Skills and Experience Required

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering
• Strong project management, planning, and scheduling skills
• Experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP
• Strong report writing and technical documentation skills
• Solid understanding of HSEQ principles and standards
• Ability to solve complex problems and manage competing priorities
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Current C Class drivers licence
