About the Position:

WorkPac are currently working with a large government organisation who assist with the movement of people across the state and allow goods and services to move effectively and safely. With the new requirements of the department, our client is looking to bolster their workforce with an experienced Communications Advisor.

To be successful in this position you will be someone who has demonstrated experience working in mid to large scale government departments and comfortable with providing technical expertise, you will provide strategic community and stakeholder management services to technical and professional staff for community engagement, media relations, issues management, public affairs and stakeholder relationship management.

Duties will include:

  • Coordinate community and stakeholder engagement activities for road infrastructure projects in the region including providing project managers with ongoing strategic communications advice, while developing and implementing communication strategies.

  • Develop, plan and manage key communication activities such as commissioning, launches, media opportunities and other events as required.

  • Provide training, advice and support to project staff and consultants to enhance communication skills and improve relationships with key stakeholders and the community in the delivery of projects and initiatives.

  • Ensure operational practices and standards of service and performance comply with departmental and regional policies, legislation (incl. WH&S), and governance obligations.

  • Manage the preparation of communications materials, including researching and writing media releases, ministerial briefings, newsletters, flyers, display materials, speech notes and others for the project.

  • Develop and implement communication strategies, activities, procedures and policies which assist the project to achieve its strategic objectives

Skills & Experience:

  • A degree in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing would be highly desirable.

  • Previous light rail or major transport infrastructure experience would be highly regarded

  • Experience in major project environments and social media competency, will also be highly regarded.

  • IAP2 or equivalent training in community engagement.

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence

  • Construction White Card or willing to obtain
