About the Role

WorkPac are currently seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join our client, Rio Tinto for a minimum 9 month duration. This role will be working 3 days, 3 nights and 6 off roster located in the Operations Centre in Perth with ADHOC site travel. The Operations Centre, located alongside Perth domestic airport, is part of the company's Mine of the Future vision. According to Rio, the facility uses cutting-edge networks to ensure all Pilbara operations up to 1500 km away can be controlled from Perth with the maximum efficiency. The operation features 200 controllers and schedulers and more than 230 technical planning and support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide escalation and recovery from site electricians, technicians and controllers for control system and electrical asset fault diagnosis and recovery.

• Act as a point of communication between control, operations and engineering teams and escalate emerging control issues to appropriate personnel.

• Coach and train control room operators on diagnostics and plant optimisation.

• Identify and develop scopes for continuous improvement projects with controllers and communicate high value opportunities to appropriate personnel.

• Provide assistance to site teams with roll-out, commissioning and execution for control systems changes in control room.

• Identify leading work practices and control improvements, standardise across controller group including incorporating into training systems.

• Ad-hoc site work will be expected. Opportunity for full time role in OC and/or site roles.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Familiar with concepts of process control and control schemes.

• Experience with industrial control systems preferably in mining.

• Proficiency in PLC and SCADA systems, particularly Schneider Electric Unity Pro, Concept, Proworx, Citect SCADA and Wonderware Intouch.

• Strong communication, written and stakeholder management skills.

• Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills.

• Proven ability to problem solve and perform data analysis.

• Experience with Schneider PLCs (M340/M580)

• Schneider Software (Proworx/Concept/Unity/Control Expert)

• Understanding of VSDs, Motors, Protection Relays, Switchgear etc
