HSE Specialist

About the Role:

WorkPac are seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to join our client Rio Tinto based in Weipa on a Monday to Friday Roster. The role provides necessary Health, Safety and Environment advice, support and auditing services at a site level, supporting teams with technical expertise, implementation and delivery of key initiatives, systems and training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting site projects in drafting, reviewing, and implementing hazard identification, operational risk assessments, JSAs and CLASSIC procedures

  • Delivering required training on an as needed basis to assist projects in timely performance of tasks

  • Deliver site internal courses as well as HP/CRM training and VOC requirements

  • Assisting sites in Investigations, root causes analysis, and continuous improvement

  • Conducting Qualitative Risk Analysis - Level 2 assessments when required

  • Embed and provide effective coaching of the Safety Tool Simplification App

  • Supporting projects to ensure that emergency plans, procedures and programs are established, compliant and tested through structured exercises

  • Ensuring compliance to the Mining and Quarrying Act including a working knowledge of the harmonisation legislation, Australian Standards, and Industry Codes of Practice

  • Completing of Internal audits in accordance with the audit schedule

  • Conducting site visits to further develop the health, safety and environmental skills and capabilities of all employees in accordance with CLASSIC standards

  • Ensuring that employees, contractors and visitors to site are aware of their obligations and RTAs policies and requirements relating to health and safety

  • Constantly looking for opportunities to implement health and safety improvement initiatives through WINS submissions and replication ideas

Skills and Experience:

  • Five years experience in field operational experience or similar Health and Safety position.

  • Confined Space, Working at Heights, HRWL Holder, First aid certificate (preferred)

  • Cert IV Training and Assessing

  • Workplace Health and Safety Diploma

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and computer skills

  • SAP Experience

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence

  • Must be either an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have full working rights within Australia to be eligible to apply for this position
