Laboratory Technician

About the Role

A 6 month opportunity exists for an experienced mine site laboratory operator at Rio Tintoâs DSL mine. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, you will be physically testing (crushing, grinding, weighing, sieving) iron ore / base metals, conducting manual preparation using rotary sample dividers and other associated duties within a laboratory environment.

Primary Responsibilities

1. conduct sampling, testing and related laboratory tasks following standard instructions and work schedule

2. work in accordance with pre-established work instructions and procedures under general supervision

3. carries out routine analytical tests and record data using site operational data system

4. Carries out routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and liaises with senior support staff on fault repair

5. Carries out duties in accordance with relevant HSE rules and procedures and good laboratory practice

6. maintain chemicals stock.

Skills and Experience:

1. Certificate IV or higher in laboratory techniques or similar relevant qualification

2. ability to troubleshoot and develop practical solutions to problems.

3. previous experience with chemical assay.

4. relevant instrument experience such auto titrators, AAS, UV-VIS, sample preparation techniques, wet and dry sizing and potentiometric titration.

5. strong attention to details and ability to work independently/minimum directions.

6. minimum 3 years of experience in laboratory, with in line experience with the responsibilities outlined above.
