About the Role

WorkPac are currently seeking a Metallurgist for Rio Tinto's Dampier Port Operations. The successful candidate is responsible to support the delivery of metallurgical test work services to internal RTIO customers to support further expansion studies and ore processing improvements for existing operations and newly commissioned plants.

Duties include:

  • Define test work activities at the Dampier Metallurgical Facility as required by various RTIO internal customers and working together with Met Eval execution Supervisors to execute the work. The outcomes of this work generate data for plant models, studies, and site support.

  • Liaise with internal customers and advise on appropriate information requirements and testing regimes to achieve the desired project objectives in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Manage the collection, production and distribution of coarse reference standard materials which are used for the quality assurance of resource definition drilling sample analysis performed by external vendors. Working with Resource Geology Evaluation and site technical support personnel.

  • Manage metallurgical sample inventory for all RTIO projects worldwide supporting the inventory control officer to maintain and manage the inventory database.

  • Lead a small team of Evaluation Metallurgist (1), Metallurgical Technician (1) and Inventory Control Officer (1) to ensure execution teams are set up for success to deliver projects safely and on schedule.

  • Manage various improvement projects to support and develop best practice metallurgical test work.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar

  • Great communication skills

  • Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills

  • Report writing and presentation skills

  • Computing skills including modelling packages and Office products

  • Understanding of sampling practices

  • Mineral processing knowledge

  • Design of experimentation

  • Statistical knowledge (desired)

  • WA C Class Drivers Licence
