  • $40-$46 /hr

  • FIFO Darwin / Cairns on a 7 days on : 7 days off roster working 12-hour shifts

The Opportunity

GEMCO (Groote Eylandt Mining Company) has a FIFO opportunity to join a mine site rehabilitation team that works alongside the Groote Eylandt traditional owners (Anindilyakwa Warnumamalya), to restore and enhance the islands natural areas post mining. The team is looking for passionate candidates to help implement our commitment for quality mine site rehabilitation, whilst delivering the purpose statement of together with the Anindilyakwa people we exchange knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence to live and work now and beyond GEMCO.

About the role

The successful candidates will assist the supervisor and mine site rehabilitation teams to help scope, plan, and safely execute a range of core rehabilitation activities including (but not limited to) native seed collection, nursery propagation, tree planting, weed management, tree felling, nesting hollow salvage, arboriculture, scientific research and other tasks performed to industry best practice standards. Opportunities exist to take on higher analytical challenges ensuring an environment of continuous improvement through positive feedback loops. Leading by example, the successful candidates will ensure that themselves and all team members follow relevant non-negotiable mine safety standards and the GEMCO life-saving rules. The role also provides a framework for personal and professional development supporting ongoing training, licensing and formal qualifications within the AQF framework.

Skills and experience

  • A strong background in either native area restoration, environmental management, GIS, soil science, weed management, nursery propagation, tree planting, horticulture and arboriculture.

  • A team player with a strong interest in working together with local indigenous employees.

  • Develop and maintain a high level of cultural awareness and mutual respect to effectively build working relationships with local indigenous employees and the broader local community.

  • A strong safety focus in line with our team values.

  • Open C Class Driver???s License.

  • Excellent fitness with ability to work in hot, humid conditions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Sound problem diagnosing and solving skills.

  • Pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening.
