Process Engineer

About the Role:

WorkPac is currently seeking an experienced Process Engineer based in Brisbane. This position will hold a Monday to Friday roster, and will be on a 6-month contract.

Accountabilities:

The Integrated Operations team has a strong focus on delivery of value through integration of the business. This is an integral short-term (6 month) role within the team to reimagine and develop business critical reports used by the senior leadership team.

The key project will be to redesign the Pacific Operations weekly GM/MD (General Manager/Managing Director) report to provide concise historical performance and forward-looking metrics to highlight critical issues across the Aluminium supply chain to enable value-adding discussion and decisions by the senior leadership team. You will need to automate or simplify the process to reduce manual input and double handling of data to free up resources.

This will require you to:

  • Understand the metrics, data sources & processes within the current PacOps GM report as well as other operational and safety reports within the business

  • Work with your leader and stakeholders to reimagine the content to provide an integrated supply chain view across mines, alumina refineries and aluminium smelters.

  • Identify overlaps and / or opportunities for alignment with existing reports within the business

  • Build a process that allows visibility of performance trends of underlying drivers to key metrics

  • Understand and connect to data sources, importing and transforming data and / or perform advance level calculations on the data set

  • Work with various IS&T and data analytics / reporting teams, including the Operational Data Platform development team, to access existing data warehouses or connect new data sources as required, aligning to Rio Tinto IS&T and ODP architecture

  • Develop the new report, with automated dashboards and simplified processes where possible

The scope may increase to redesigning other reports, such as the weekly leadership meetings or those specific to certain departments

Skills & Experience:

  • PowerBI report development and SSRS experience / skills

  • Knowledge and skills for secondary tools such as Microsoft Azure, SQL data warehouse and ability to integrate Power BI reports into other applications using embedded analytics like Power BI service (SaaS)

  • Demonstrated experience implementing similar projects within a complex supply chain

  • Passion for data & metrics, and the ability to simplify and articulate complex information in a way that is easy to interpret across various levels of the business

  • Ability to scope user requirements for reports and visualization and translate their needs into prototypes before final development and implementation

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders, from technical professionals to senior management

  • Able to understand the business requirements and develop tabular and multidimensional models that are compatible with warehouse standards

  • UI / UX experience will be beneficial

  • Business Improvement qualification or skills beneficial

  • Experience working in bauxite, refineries and / or smelters will be beneficial
