About the Position
WorkPac are currently seeking an experienced Hydrologist to join our client Rio Tinto's Water Resource Evaluation team on an initial 12 month position based in Perth CBD, with occasional site visits when required. This role will see you joining a high performing team who identify and characterise hydrologic risks to current operations and future mine development and effectively communicate the magnitude to site and study and project teams.
Duties will include:
Providing technical input into expansion studies for Conceptual, Order-of-Magnitude, Pre-feasibility (PFS), feasibility (FS), life-of-mine (LoM), closure and 5-year mining studies
Communicating technical advice to operations on surface water issues
Undertaking surface water investigations to establish hydrologic and hydraulic conditions and develop strategic and tactical surface water management plans
Undertaking the annual flood risk assessment and support the annual wet season management plan development for all operational sites
Providing advice on surface water management issues to other business services (Approvals, Environment, Engineering and Asset Management, EPCM contractors)
Building and fostering strong relationships with site hydrogeologists, environmental officers and mining personnel.
Skills and Experience:
Current C Class Drivers Licence
Bachelors Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geography or Environmental Science
Demonstrated experience in assessment of surface water flow and flood estimation in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia
Minimum of 4 years demonstrated working experience and the ability to work independently with limited technical input required from Senior Hydrologists or Superintendent Hydrologist
Practical experience in surface water management and design of flood mitigation structures
Practical experience with presentation of hydrologic assessments
Practical experience of 1D-2D hydraulic modelling and GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS)
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office
Experience with Rio Tinto Utilities network preferred but not essential
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to work autonomously, show initiative and be drive to achieve results
