Safety Officer

About our Client

Our client, is a well established provider of service offerings in construction, consulting, fitout, heritage and asset refurbishments, and modular construction.

About the Role

The Site Safety Officer will be responsible for all aspects of OH&S on site. This is hands on site role where you will provide the full service of Safety management to a very large residential construction project. The site is based in Berri in South Australia.

Duties & Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Plan, coordinate and manage safety aspects in relation to traffic management, risk management and hazardous materials

  • Identify hazards on site and take proactive action to minimise potential harm

  • Identification and management of risk

  • Working knowledge of safety legislation, codes of practice and standards

  • Appropriately assess subcontractor systems of work, monitor performance, and working collaboratively to improve safety outcomes

  • Manage plant - undertake risk assessments, VOC, induction, maintenance

  • Communicate and engage with larger audiences to attain broad commitment to achieve team goals

  • Address issues as they arise, with the aptitude and flexibility for taking on new challenges

  • As required mentor or train workplace personnel in regards to the safety aspects of the IMS

  • Induct personnel

  • Conducts safety assessments and internal audits to assess safety performance and opportunities for improvement

  • Ensure accurate records of safety aspects are developed and maintained by the workplace

  • Reports incidents, non-conformances and near misses and participate in incident investigations when required

  • Undertake Safety reporting as required (monthly reports, statistics etc.)

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role you will have the following: -

  • Cert IV in Occupational Health and Safety preferred (Minimum Cert 3)

  • Experience in the construction industry

  • Experience of Microsoft office

  • Valid drivers licence and own transport essential
