About The Role

Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation is back in business and the long term outlook for Nickel is positive as global demand for green energy increases. An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mining Engineer to join a team of technical professionals tasked with developing, executing and achieving the short (weekly) to medium term mine production plans.

The Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for coordinating the scheduling functions, in close coordination with mining contractor, ensuring robust planning and conformance procedures are in place to enable the site to achieve its production objectives.

Reporting to the Superintendent for Mine Planning, you will assist, prepare and manage the delivery of mine plans and schedules and coordinate the mine planning and development activities to ensure tonnage and grade targets are achieved safely and efficiently. Additionally, you will coordinate drill and blast design and drill scheduling and ensure mine designs are delivered to meet operational requirements. Working within a small team, you will engage with stakeholders from different business functions in order to optimise the mine technical services teamâs outputs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop a rolling three month mine plan and ensure accurate and timely delivery of the mining schedule and associated deliverables to all stakeholders.

  • Reconciliation of the three-month plan to other planning horizons.

  • Assist with and prepare budgets, forecasts and other plans and schedules.

  • Deliver operational pit designs and related infrastructure designs for three-month schedules in order to optimise the associated resources and maximise the value of the mining business.

  • Assist with the optimisation of the long-term plans (up to 5 Years), through application of sound mining engineering design and strategic consideration.

  • Conduct project planning, producing project schedules, analysing project progress and reporting on the project planning indicators.

  • Review drill and blast designs submitted by mining contractor for subsequent approval by relevant parties.

Background & Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of mine site operations and a comprehensive understanding of a mine sitesâ commercial structure gained through extensive post graduate experience within a mining environment.

  • Analytically minded, in order to identify potential areas of improvement and solutions to operational issues through the analysis of data.

  • Self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously, producing comprehensive reports, retrospective analysis, budgets and forecasts for all business units of the mine site operation.

  • Ability and confidence to liaise with stakeholders across the business and work with them on diverse issues.

  • Strong understanding of business improvement principles, and an aptitude for identifying and instigating efficiency optimisation opportunities.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent.

  • Basic understanding of legal requirements of mining contracts.

  • Technical competence in short-medium term planning and aptitude for interrogating plan output data.

  • Technical competency with mining Deswik.

  • Ability to build and manage contractor relationships.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical detail to a variety of stakeholders.
