Western Australia
In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Rio Tinto owns a world-class, integrated network of 17 mines, four independent port terminals, a rail network spanning nearly 2,000 kilometres and related infrastructure. More info

Salt Rio Tinto has three salt operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Lake MacLeod and is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. More info
Rail Rio Tinto’s rail network is the largest privately-owned and operated rail system in Australia. It currently services 16 mines via mainline systems of more than 1,700 kilometres.
Ports Rio Tinto operates four shipping terminals at two locations, Cape Lambert and Dampier. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, product stockpiling and blending and ship loading.
Queensland
Rio Tinto has several operations in Queensland including Weipa Bauxite Mine, Boyne Smelters Ltd and the Yarwun Alumina Refinery.
Weipa Mine Rio Tinto operations in Far North Queensland include three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. More info
Yarwun Located ten kilometres north-west of Gladstone in central Queensland, Yarwun Alumina Refinery is also home to Rio Tinto’s Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC). Construction began in 2002 and the first shipment of alumina was made in late 2004. This refinery was the first greenfield refinery to be built in the western world in 20 years. More info
Boyne Smelters Ltd Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL) is located at Boyne Island in Central Queensland and is Australia’s second-largest aluminium smelter. More info
