About the Role:

WorkPac are currently seeking an experienced Data Scientist to work within the Exploration Technical Knowledge department. This position is a Monday to Friday role based out of the Rio Tinto Belmont office.

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Develop Data Science and Machine Learning models using a structured experimental framework to solve key business challenges

• Work with SMEs to understand key business problems, the data, and the desired solution

• Work with Data Engineers to prepare and format data

• Work with Data Engineers to create ML pipelines in AWS for training and inference

Skills & Experience Required: 

• 2-5 yearsâ experience as a Data Scientist in an industry role

• Understanding of earth science

• Program experience (Python and R)

• Experience with cloud service for ML (AWS Sagemaker)

• Software development skills

• Demonstrated development of Data Science and Machine Learning solutions for business problems

• Exposure to a range of Data Science/ML problems including computer vision, NLP or LLMs

• Scientific data modeling highly regarded

• Relevant tertiary qualification required

• Current "C" Class Driver's License
