Marine Project Engineer

About the Role

WorkPac are currently seeking an experienced Marine Project Engineer to join our client Rio Tinto in their Sustaining Capital team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Project Lead by providing Project Engineering expertise on marine construction projects and marine structural integrity projects.

  • Manage project Contractor(s) - monitoring progress, safety performance, conformance with scope of work, contract deliverables, quality standards and specifications. (Experience/knowledge of welding standards and application of protective coatings advantageous).

  • Engage with site key stakeholders to plan and coordinate Sustaining Capital Project works with Site Maintenance activities (operating and shutdown).

  • Perform site inspections of Contractor Works (planning, quality, progress, change management).

  • Coordinate Technical Queries through the Consultant (providing technical and site experience/input) and/or engineering subject matter experts

  • Supporting the Project Lead, review progress payment claims, review project schedule compliance, provide monthly progress reports to internal stakeholders, track project budget, prepare and review accommodation and monthly cashflow forecasts.

  • Demonstrate safety leadership in the field, engaging in Critical Risk Management ensuring the highest HSEQ standards are being met at all times.

  • Collaborate well with project support functions (including procurement, cost analysis, estimators, planners, shutdown schedulers, travel, accommodation, and mobilisation teams).

  • Ensuring the day-to-day scope delivery is meeting schedule.

  • Utilising the Sustaining Capital project procedures to assist moving new projects through the stages Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, Implementation and Close Out.

  • Determining optimum design solutions in consultation with the design teams.

  • Creating an accurate Project Budget and forecasting cash flow.

  • Creating a Project Schedule to meet required business deadlines.

  • Reviewing construction methodologies and tender documentation.

  • Developing scope of works.

  • May support other disciplines within the Dampier delivery portfolio, depending on demand and priority

Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years post-graduate experience with SMP projects in the mining industry with experience in structural integrity highly regarded

  • Bachelor of Engineering (civil/structural/mechanical preferred) OR Trade Certificate + Extensive Project Management Experience with marine construction projects

  • Core project quality control and assurance skills

  • Experience with marine construction or marine maintenance will be highly regarded

  • Experience with shutdown planning and job task sequencing highly regarded

  • Experience with Contractor/Sub-contractor management

  • Experience with reviewing resource loaded schedules

  • SAP experience favoured but not essential

  • Experience with structural welding and application of protective coatings systems (including QA/QC requirements) advantageous but not essential.
